Sketch noting & story-telling

While I like to be organised, I thrive off ambiguity. I love a big blank page to start exploring complex problems. I need to hear peoples stories first hand, to understand their needs, to see how things work, to learn about what is great,  as well as what is completely useless.

When I’m in my element, you’ll find me mid-workshop, surrounded by participants, I’ll be sketch-noting, colour coding, throwing around post-it notes and trying to get a laugh out of everyone as we do it.

I have a quick rough sketch style that helps others in the room feel confident to pick up a sharpie or whiteboard marker and give it a go too – if a picture can tell a thousand words, a stick figure, or a box and arrow can tell at least a hundred!

I use illustration & storytelling wherever possible, I find it is such a valuable communication tool, whether that’s in an initial discovery session, fleshing out quick design prototypes, mud-mapping system & process interactions, or sharing back insights & journeys with stakeholders & executive teams – it’s a simple & powerful way to bring a relatable human element while delivering key messages and goals.
